THIRD ANNUAL CORPORATE GOVERNANCE AND ETHICS SYMPOSIUM

FRIDAY, MAY 9
REGISTRATION STATUS: OPEN
MAIL-IN REGISTRATION DEADLINE: MAY 2

In its third year, this one-day symposium provides a forum for auditors, audit committee members, corporate attorneys, CFOs, and members of academia to hear first hand from standard setters and expert speakers about new trends in current accounting and auditing practice.

The year 2007 was a year of considerable change in accounting and auditing standards. The profession witnessed a huge momentum in the move toward the convergence of financial-reporting standards - GAAP and IFRS, in particular - and the rise of fair-value accounting.

The Securities and Exchange Commission has been in the news regarding IFRS integration and exerting of its fiscal power over the Financial Accounting Standards Board.

The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board's introduction of its revised version of internal-controls assessment standard, AS 5, received great attention. The implications of this revised standard for corporations and public accounting firms are believed to be wide-ranging.

Latest academic research on the use of non-financial performance measures to predict fraud is the other area of discussion during the symposium and will be further examined on May 10th during a one-day research conference on the subject.

CPE CREDITS: UP TO 6 HOURS
By attending the Corporate Governance and Ethics Symposium, participants will receive guidance and practical advice on how to handle new legislation from key PCAOB and FASAB and SEC officials. Additionally, participants can qualify to receive up to 6 hours of CPE credits and meet the Virginia Ethics portion of their CPE requirements for 2008.
